...which isn't really that interesting of itself, but the blanket coverage adverts on commerical TV during children's programming is.

...........and I've stopped getting DWM!!!!

It's a load of bollocks, unless you want pictures of Noel Clark in his underwear, and lots of stories over and over again from cast and crew saying how 'fantastic' the new series is!

DWM was a great mag when it started, and thrived during the 80s.

The 90s presented the mag with a challenge to come up with new ideas, due to no new shows being presented, and I think the editors rose to the task very well.

But I do agree that its gone rather downhill in the last few years.

The last copy I read had a 2 page spread on Noel Clark sans shirt - It was like DWM had turned into a sci fi version of FHM!!!!!!!!

the last DWM was okay I thought... It basically went and summarised all ten doctors and had lots of interviews.  The funniest being the interview with Tom Baker... I have the September Issue in my bag ready to read on the train tonight, I'll get back to you and let you know how good/crap it is!

Its disappointing, but the return of television production has seen this publication go from being something bordering on the academic to merely a polished fanzine, and a particularly squee-ing one at that.

It's almost like they should have launched a whole new raft of periodicals--DWM, DWM junior and DWM light.

Disappointing is an understatement - DWM has joined the gutter press in my opinion.

I'm completely disillusioned with the publication and refuse to buy it until it raises its standards back to its classic 1990s levels of excellence - yeah, like that's ever going to happen!.

I remember reading the 'JNT Diaries' in DWM about 10 years back.

Even then, I thought that was a well written piece of fiction!!!!!

I'm looking forward to the follow up - 'The Eric Saward Diaries' ........

Or what about The Andrew Catmel Diaries?????

Hey, Martin says he has a book about Andrew Cartmell's confessions as a Doctor Who script writer..........perhaps if YOU came to a club meeting, you might be able to check it out!

............yeah, and I know what you mean about the fiction of the JNT diaries! I remember reading the DWM issue where he went on and on about how he put together The 5 Doctors.

But What I did find interesting was how JNT discussed the ongoing friction between himself and Eric Saward.

Unfortunately, I can't recall much of that - I'll have to read it all again, whaen I can find the time!

Yes, Ive heard of Cartmel's book - apparently he spends the whole time trying to justify why Season 24 was so good.

I wonder if  Cartmel uses his infamous quote in it - "If only they used better lighting, the show would have been better?'

If ever Eric Saward tries to publish a book on his time on Dr Who, I'll be the first one in line to get it - would be streets ahead of Cartmel's tome no doubt.

He runs down season 24, and that quote's from DWM. But it's worth repeating here--"When people say the writing's bad they often mean the lighting's bad". It was in relation to Dragonfire, but in responce I'd like to add that the lighting for Time and the Rani is as bad as I've ever seen. And explains why Pip and Jane Baker weren't invited to light any more stories.

I suppose we should at least be thankful that JNT did something right by not inviting them back....

Time & The Rani was without doubt one of the very low points of the series, such a waste.

Although I do remember reading DWM at that time, which praised Season 24 to high heaven, or maybe my memory is cheating - as JNT used to love to say.

Just finished reading the latest DWM ... I think it would perhaps be far cheaper and less painful to spend the $12.10 cover price on say... a root canal or having boils lanced from your behind... oh and much more entertaining and enjoyable!

You're entirly right about the uncritical praise heaped upon the continuing production. What do we expect though; to be credited as the official magazine, have their licence revoked (it's not impossible they'll just turn around and do this) and be granted all that access...impartitality?

I'm starting another thread on this.

DWM lost its creativity once the new series started showing.

Instead of finding new angles on which to talk about the show, it now seems content to rest on its laurels and just go on about how great the new series is.

I think that DWM should separate into 'classic' and 'new series' magazines so that there's an even balance to things.

or perhaps it could even focus some attention on reviewing or debating the books especially the difference between the rehashed target novels, the new adventures and the latest ninth and tenth doctor books... I mean it is "the DOCTOR WHO magazine" and if I'm not mistaken these books do contribute to the wonder that is doctor who...

Very true, it should look at the broad fandom base instead of just the tv adventures.

I realise that the tv adventures are of course important, but focusing on other aspects of the Who universe should be done.

DWM does have a section on books, but it should widen its scope in that area for sure.

well perhaps they just don't know that they suck and we should send them a letter or something... that is that the magazine is for the fans and if the fans aren't happy then the magazine won't be bought... so its up to the fans to say "hey look your magazine is really sucking right now this is what we suggest"...

I doubt anything'd change DWM at the moment. It must be selling ten times it's previous figures. What might work would be if Panini or the BBC thought there was more money to be made from Doctor Who heavy--say a quarterly with more thought put into it. See the proliferation of Who non-fiction books now!
