This line is actually the opening line to Anthony Burgess' classic novel, "A Clockwork Orange" - a glimpse into the future that, in my opinion, has been somewhat accurate when you consider the delinquent behaviour that youth get up to in the outer nothern suburbs of Adelaide - and then there's 21st century American youth gansters to consider!!!!!
"A Clockwork Orange" is also a sardonic view of human nature, a critique of the attempts at social conditioning/manipulation used by western society's governments - and it was also a bloody fantastic film by Stanley Kubrick.
........yet I didn't intend to make this a forum about "A Clockwork Orange" - I just thought the opening line would be an interesting way to start a forum as it really has no topic except what you all choose to write.
Let's see what happens.............................. |

Interesting you bring it up--the 21st chapter also begins this way, I had a copy of the American edition for years befoer I found out there was this whole other ending.
As coming of age science fiction novels go I prefer Logan's Run. |

I thought we were all living in the 'Clockwork Orange era' now!!
I rather escape into fantasy, because the reality we live in now is rather depressing.
As a side note - I just saw the film Colour Me Kubrick today, thought it was very well acted by John Malcovich.
So, am I the only one who actually liked Barry Lyndon? |

I saw X-Men 3, Colour Me Kubrick would've been good if the session time was right--Barry Lyndon was OK, made a better book! |

I'd like to read "Logan's Run". It'd have to be phenomenal to top "A Clockwork Orange". |

I'll bring my SF Book Club copy if I can find it. More drama and less significant than Clockwork Orange, it was knocked out in a cafe in a couple of days. |

Be interesting to see Bryan Singers take on Logans Run. He's been planning on doing a remake for years. |

It could be really good. Or not. The X-Men films were surprising in that they wern't totally dreadful. |

I agree, the Xmen films could have been appalling.
But Bryan Singer is such a good director, that Im glad he was chosen to do them.
Xmen 3 was ok, but I didnt enjoy it as much as the first 2.
Did anyone here like The Fantastic Four movie from last year?
I thought it was reasonable, but not as good as it could have been....very much like the Daredevil film from a few years back. |

I really liked the XMen3 movie. You need to stay past the credits though when you watch it as there is more! I also really like Elektra better than Daredevil. |

Elektra was pretty disappointing. Jennifer Garner is great in Alias, but she isnt Elektra material.
Daredevil was ok, but definately should have been much darker.
I loved Batman Begins though - definately the best of the Batman films so far. |

Yes, Bale was Batman in that one.
I thought that was the best Batman film made so far. It balanced the darkness of the character with a few light moments as well. |

I've always found the frenzied canning Daredevil received to be a tad odd. Sure, it wasn't mindbogglingly fantasmagoric and frankly, another actor ought to have played the role, but at the end of the day, I enjoyed it far more than the first Spider Man movie released at about the same time period, which I thought was dreadful and came accross as basically a kid's movie. The Goblin's mouth not moving didn't help matters, helmet or no. It looked cheap and tacky, not a good look for a main archvillain, and the muffled voice coming from behind it was almost comical. The second one was much better, with Dr. Octagon providing the kind of archvillain needed. Personally, I found Daredevil to be one of the more interesting super hero movies to have come out, with a blind superhero being an excellent premise. Ok, so sue me. |
