Subject:  A Super order

Ignoring the more obscure versions (The Indian Superman, or the musical. Or Superpup) here's my order of the various Superman adaptions...

Superman II (1980)

Superman (1978)

"Superman" (1996) AKA "Superman: The Animated Series" include Justice League/Unlimited

Superman (1941) and all Fleisher Studios cartoons

Superman (1948) and other theater serials

"Adventures of Superman" (1952) George Reeves, include Superman and the Mole-Men

"Superboy" (1988)

"Smallville" (2001)

"Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" (1993)

"The New Adventures of Superman" (1966) and other Filmation versions

"Super Friends" (1973) and all Hanna-Barbera versions

Superman III (1983)

Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987)?

Superman Returns (2006)?

I loved the first 2 Chris Reeve ones, they were classics.

I saw Superman Returns on the weekend......and hated it.  The story was very unexciting and dull, and had none of the prestige of the earlier films.

I found both Lois & Clark / Smallville to be pretty lame.

The tv version I loved the most was the 1950s George Reeves one, still stands up pretty well today.

I missed *two* sessions on Sunday--maybe not a bad thing...

My only complaint about the theater serials and then the Reeves TV show is that they only licensed Superman and the Daily Planet newsroom characters. The Fleisher cartoons had the same problem, but with the medium of animation they made a better go of creating credible threats.

Its easier in animation to create any monster you like.

I'd love to hear the original Superman radio serials as well.

Im sure they'd be more entertaining than Superman Returns!!!!!!

I have a couple of episodes on vinyl, and they are not too bad at all.

I quite like the über dramatics of the old radio serials.

A lot of super heroes were serialised in those days, one of the best was The Shadow.

I have bought the first two seasons of the George Reeves series, and all my memmories was as a child watching them in the early 60s, and now watching them as a adult, and seeing them differently, and the the stories were very well done, and acted. I was pleasently surprise how well they are. I will be bringing along season 1 to this Saturday's meeting  (15/7/06).
