Subject:  New Appreciation

25/07/2006 03:56 GMT

Hi Everyone,

As some of you may know I have given Peter Davison somewhat of a pasting in regards to his acting ability.

As the Doctor I thought it was just his lack of skill that destoryed the character of the 5th Doctor.

I take it all back,,, after watching The Last Detective on ABC, he is a wonderful actor.

I hate all police shows, Blue Hellers, NCIS, NCIS Maimi, NCIS New York, CSI NCSI, NCSI CSI, NCSI CSI Elizabeth City Centre etc.

But the Last Detective is GREAT.

Has any one else watched it? What do you think of it?

I now know who is to blame for the 5th Doctor's Character JNT!!!! DOWN WITH JNT!!!

Hey Sneb,

I agree with you. The Last Detective is a top show! I like the CSI original (the Miami one is plain crap.. don't even get me started on the scientific inaccuracies of that show!) and I like NCIS as entertainment... but I have to say nothing beats a good British cop show... like Hamish McBeth or Taggart! And The Last Detective is right up there with them.

Isn't that the one subtitled "Australia's Most Wanted"? Though my mate and I seriously considered making a CSI Semaphore and showing those schmucks how its done!

I reckon the best non Dr Who performance would have to go to Tom Baker for his role as the priest in The Lives and Loves of a She Devil, made in 1986.

He was great in that, such a bizarre role.

Im a CSI fan too.  Without A Trace and Cold Case are fab as well.

The original CSI is the best of the franchise though.

The Office of Film and Literature Classification have never been able to classify the show's rating.........let's hope those new train signals have a few errors!!!!!

Yeah but Jimmy its just another example of the B5 effect... you take a perfectly good story line (the Salisbury Train Signals) and slap on a the CSI (or in B5 case Star Trek) label and wham instant hit even though the show is a rip off and far crapper than the original idea put forth by some brilliant writers... Oh dear I'm venting again aint I!

Actually CSI Smithfield Plains really wouldn't work,,, it is more of a WARZONE than a residential area with a high crime rate.

Maybe MASH Smithfield Plains??????

As long as Sean Connery plays the part of Mr Rann in any of these productions I am happy

Just imagine JNT trying to promote Doctor Who in Smithfield Plains!!!!!

P.S. Smithfieldians actually spell Smithfield as 'Smifield' and they also add 'fu**ing' in front of the word.

I think that the concept of Doctor Who would blow their heads apart... Too much thinking ... perhaps if it was introduced on DVD inside the new Holden Commodore they stole from Elizabeth City Centre Car Park it my subconsciously... heck what am I thinking... subconscious... you need a conscience first!

Yes ! Getting back to the original comment,...

Peter Davison did give a great rendition of Dangerous Davies, the Last Detective. It`s arole that was played also by Bernard Cribbins ( another companion for the Doctor) in the film version.

What do you think the directors/producers say to each other when making a programme,.......?  "Let`s find someone who is really REALLY Crap and put them in the title role"?

No way; their jobs depend on it.  Point is, some are suited and some are not. The only way it shows is when the filming, editing and screening is completed.

I`ve said and will continue to say that Colin Baker was rubbish as the Doctor. I`ve never said that he can`t act or that he should not be on stage or T.V.

Chris Eccleston might`ve/probably would`ve been the worst Doctor ever if it wasn`t for the changed production methods introduced in the new series.

Oh, by the way; as a new member can I say how much I appreciate the serious and sincere friendly banter which constitutes replies on this forum.

And also I am appreciative of the lack of sarcasm on these pages.

Hey Terry, you know I have the same sentiments as you Chris E. would have not suited the Doctor back in the 80s due to the immaturity of the audience back in those care free days. But today, with new values and new views, he was cutting edge Had Colin Baker's portrayal be pulled out today, it would have been a different story

He was truly a visionary ahead of his time
