Subject:  200th Story

I was thinking last  night how many Dr Who Stories have there been. Trying to work out the number of stories that have been televised.

now heres my problem's: A do you count the Mcgain Movie, B do the three 2 parter's  of last series count a one stories each, if yes to A and No to B then the 200th storie will be at the 13th ep of this series if no then sometime next year.

You should definately count the McGann movie, as it had the regeneration of the McCoy doctor.

The 3 two parters would be just the one story.

But I would classify the Trial of a Timelord season as one long story, much like The Dalek Masterplan was for the first doctor.

It depends on how you define "story". The Trial of a Time Lord was four individual stories within an arc (as per the Key to Time) until the eleventh hour when they took the individual story titles off and counted then as one long story. No one ever has counted them this way since; they were novelised under individual titles and are counted as individual stories by both Outpost Gallifrey and Wikipedia. They both count the double episodes from series one as single stories, and give The Christmas Invasion as number 171. The BBC referes to the stories excusivly in production numbers terms

I'll tell you what though: News Corporation's claim that the ABC would "screen all 700 episodes" in the repeats season was wrong!

Ha! As if Newscorp was the expert on Dr Who!!

Pity the complete Dalek stories weren't shown though.

The 200th ep would be in the series after this one, that's assuming if they have another Christmas special, which is what I've heard they'll do.

On the other hand the Nation estate kept us in scoops for over a year. All for the asking!

Following this (Outpost/Wikipedia) counting system the end of series two gives 181 stories. The next Christmas special makes 182 Series three will have at least one two parter bringing the number to 194. Story 200 would be in series four on this logic.

Considering that Tennant has said he wants to overtake Tom Baker's record as the longest serving Doctor, it looks like he'll be there by ep 200, here's hoping!

I wonder if they'll do a scene with a birthday cake in it - as they were going to do for the 100th, 'The Stones of Blood'.?

Yeah, K9 and Romana were going to sing "Happy Birthday!" to the Doctor for that one.

But then every one decided that the idea was too silly.

Tom Baker probably would have spoiled it with his mugging, as he usually did in his later years on the show.

But they could perhaps have the Tennant dr reunite with a past companion for the 200th - any idea who they should get?  Jamie, Victoria??
