Season 17 was very much a mixed bag.

City of Death was great, but I do agree that the rest of the stories were below average.

But wasn't Destiny of the Daleks the first story to be broadcast?  That wasn't a very good one.

Pity Shada never got completed, that may have been the best of the season.

Season 17 demonstrates the weak middle theory. Destiny of the Daleks--not my favourite by a long way, but the production team thought it was a winner. Then City of Death, first location shooting overseas. Then three middle stories. Then a big six parter, written by the script editor.

It seems that the Season 17 production team 'front loaded' the season with 2 big stories, ie: Daleks and Location shooting - and lost its way with the other ones.

Pity about Shada - the location scenes in that one seemed quite good, judging by the Five Doctors excerpts

They got all the location footage down; it was a studio strike that did it in. Unfortunaltly the scenes yet to be filmed were set aboard a spaceship and a space bourne prison--no filming in an underground car park was going to save it! The bulk of the first four episodes--sans special effects, score--are available with Tom narrating the gaps. Partly in character.

He mentions in his autobiography that the singers in Cambridge scarves he rides past could have been the next national sensation. Or not.

I don't think that Tom Baker would be the best judge of who's a good singer....!

Did anyone see him in that Dungeons and Dragons film?  I think I might be the only one who actually liked it!

Anyone else like it?

Haven't seen that.

But I have seen "Shada" as narrated by Tom Baker.

Damn! that really would have been a great story!!!!

I know, would have been good.

JNT did try to salvage it when Season 18 came around, but gave up....another story lost to his hands!

Indeed, while the odd script hasn't worked out, and the unfortunate The Urge to Live never saw broadcast, Shada is the only story ever to be abandoned by this stage of production!

Think of a more deserving candidate?

I nominate the stories after City of Death as candidates that should have been halted!

Horns of Nimon - what were they thinking?

They should have really filmed the 6 part story first, so as to get the 'big story' out of the way early.

I doubt that anyone would have missed Horns of Nimon had that been cancelled.

Season 17 was an abysmal mess! "Destiny of the Daleks" (sorry, I did like that one) and "City of Death" were good or better.......but the others were appalling.

Apparently "Shada" has been re - done as an audio recording with Mc Gann as The Doctor.

Now, this makes me think..........I know it sounds.......but why don't the BBC do ALL the missing stories as remakes? With new cast, etc, but using all the scripts/storylines? It's all there - and the budget wouldn't be that big - and I'm sure lots of people would like to see "The Evil of the Daleks", "The Web of Fear", etc.

What do y'all think?

Well we do live in the era of re-makes these days, so why not?

Although I do believe that most of the missing stories have been released as audio adventures, am I correct?

If not, then they should be!

Just had a thought.....if they can't be bothered paying the actors to re-make the stories, what about turning them into cartoons???

The 90s Batman cartoon series was done seriously, why not Dr Who???

I always liked the Horns of Nimon The suspense, the direction, the special effects (maybe not) How can you dish that? hehehe

The re-makes sound like a great idea.... though I wouldn't mind some of the complete stories being remade though, so they can live up to their true potential.

Attack of the Cybermen, could have been a classic, but old Eric Saward managed to make a mess of it....

Actually here is a question. Which stories, that you think are crap,  do you think should be remade as they may have had some potential?
