Poor old Syvlester - he did his best, but was hampered by an inexperienced script editor and a Producer that just had his eye on the next merchandising spin off.
To be fair, Season 26 was good and showed that the series was going places, such a shame it all stopped there and then.
Although I agree that Season 24 was a shocker and Season 25 was half ok. |

What was good about Season 24? I must have missed that.
The ONLY good story in the McCoy years (for me) was "Battlefield", even though McCoy over acted so much in that one.
I just can't stand the McCoy years. They should just be wiped. Yet as fate would have it, we can't wacth the first 2 years of Troughton (Except for "Tomb of the Cybermen") but all of Mccoy's drivel is there to be (enjoyed - NOT) at any time.
* SERIOUSLY, Apologies to McCoy fans - the actor did do the best he could, but as I have said so many times before, it was just a purile attempt at sci fi that was weak in every respect (and there was that damn annoying music that I'm sure they borrowed from arcade games that were in fish and chip shops in the 1980s!!!!) |

Season 24 was possibly the worst Doctor Who season made I agree. The stories were incoherent messes, and the stunt casting of 'name actors' was a massive mistake.
I thought that Ghost Light, and Greatest Show In the Galaxy were pretty good McCoy stories - by then McCoy knew what his character was about.
But of course by McCoy's era, the BBC had enough of the show and spent little money on it, so everything suffered. It wouldn't have mattered who was the Doctor was then. |

Personally, I would have liked to have seen Nicol Williamson (the dude who played Merlin in "Excalibur") play The Doctor back then. Even if the production standards were worse than a Kremlin Bureau subsidy, he would have saved the stories from being the utter mess that they were. |

Never heard of that guy Jimmy, but then again, whoever would have played the Doctor couldn't have saved the series.
The BBC had obviously made up its mind to axe it eventually and did.
Ace was a good companion though, clearly better than Mel ! |

If you like/ are interested in Arthurian legend at all, watch "Excalibur". It's phenomenal, and the guy who plays Merlin is like a cross between Tom Baker's Doctor and Obi - Wan - Kenobi. |

I think an older actor would have been good. Graham Crowden would have been perfect.
Pity his sole Who appearance was in 'The Horns of Nimon'. Now that is a very silly story, but fun. |

But Jimmy, you have to appreciate the really bad stories too!!!!
'Horns of Nimon' makes some of the JNT stories watchable by comparison!!! |

I bet the writers bring back the Brig at some point. I was surprised they didnt bring him in the first new series to be honest.
Looking forward to Torchwood. It should at least be a better Dr Who spin off than K9 & Co!!!!
Captain Jack rocks!! |

I must disagree.
Capt'n Jack was a representation of Russell T Davies gay fantasies. Sorry, dude, but Capt'n Jack's a 'metrosexual', and Russell T. Davies bats for the other side - he deliberately put Capt'n Jack in the show to say "Look, everyone, I'm gay and you can't stop me!!!!"
> Read the Doctor Who Magazine interview with Davies (Issue 359, August 2005): Davies states that he's gay and an atheist, he wants all and sundy to know about it, and he promotes such ideologies in Dr Who.
> When I read the show this way, I wonder why I'm such a big fan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As for "The Horns of Nimon", there really aren't many competitors for worst story ever other than that one, except for the whole of McCoy's terrible era.
Oh, and "Enlightenment"/"Terminus"/"Timelash"/"Remebrance of the Daleks" |

Timelash was pretty bad it must be said.
The sets looked like they had about $5 spent on them.
Remembrance of the Daleks wasnt that bad - not as bad as Destiny of the Daleks. |

No way, dude!
"Destinmy of the Daleks" still had the Douglas Adams satire and the eerieness of Davros being reactivated for the first time.......and there was the logic impasse of the Movellans vs the Daleks - that was good storytelling. "Remebebrance" had none of these qualities. It was just the Dr Who budget running dry, and a pointless, lost storyline that was corrupted with stupid jokes and terribly (over)acting. |

This *is* the man who wrote Queer as Folk. I'm quite OK with his agenda, and he won't last forever. |

He also wrote "The Christmas Invasion", and that was the best Dr Who (together with "The Empty Child"/"The Doctor Dances") story since "The Caves of Androzani".
Honestly, I couldn't give a toss about him being gay, as long as he gets the job done.
> But I don't like the character of Capt'n Jack at all - he's so up himself and is such a poser (he'd be right at home with the characters from Fast Forward's 'Dumb Street') |

Everyone else must liked Captain Jack, or he wouldn't have been given a bigger role in Torchwood.
Harriet Jones was wonderful in the Xmas show - a really charming character. Would have been hilarious had she been made the new head of UNIT though! |

Harriet Jones isn't as annoying as Rose's mother though!
I put her on a par with Mel as being one of the most annoying characters in the Who universe! |

I for one really liked Harriet Jones. Her officiousness was hilarious, and she was 100000000X more likable than Rose and her plebian mother.
I DO NOT like the Doctor's new companions. Rose, her plebian mother, Mickey the jerk and that poofter Captain should all be exterminated in my opinion.
I haven't liked any of the Doctor's companions since Peri. (though I did like Dr. Grace Holloway from the McGann telemovie) |

Grace never really got a chance to shine, as did McGann, which is a shame. They tried to make that telemovie too much like 'The X Files' meets 'E.R.'
For all the faults of the McCoy era, I thought that Ace was one of its bright spots. I thought she performed the function of the companion quite well. At least she wasn't one dimensional like Mel or Rose's mother. |
