Terror of the Autons was great, a worthy follow up to Spearhead.  Plus it introduced The Master.

I always found Terminus to be rather dull and pointless, the weak middle ground in the Black Guardian trilogy.

Terror of the Zygons was brilliant  - one of my all time faves.  Would have been great had The Zygons appeared again.

Terror of the Vervoids was one of the better stories from Season 23, but pales in comparison to the Zygon story.

Double agreed--Terror has some flaws, but it trots along a quite a pace!

The Black Guardian trilogy leads off with a strong Mawdryn Undead, ends with the fantasy-in-disguise Enlightenment, with a chewy nutty centre. Terminus always reminds me of some kind of eighties rock and roll concept stage show, which can't make up it's mind if it's Glam or Heavy Metal.

Terror of the Vervoids is at least comprehansible, if you ignore the future adventure aspect. Zygons was great.

The Abominable Snowmen vs The Ambassadors of Death.

The Android Invasion vs The Androids of Tara.

Bloody Hell!

You guys have been going for it here!!!!!!

I'd have to write a thesis to critique the pair of you. Look, I got it all right on "The Best and Worst of Dr Who" forum - all you need to do is refer to that

Seriously, I'd love to be keeping up with you guys, but work has been absolutley flat out! I think this week was the hardest I've ever had at the place I'm currently contracted at.

Just bought "Genesis of the Daleks" on DVD - will be watching it tonight - YES!!!!!

It is my 2nd favourite Dr Who story of all time (after "The Deadly Assassin") - Can't wait to see The Doctor getting throttled by a baby Dalek again!!!!

That's good, we can use it for tie breaking!

I'm intending to do second and third ranks, at least until we distill the best and worst ten.

The Abominable Snowmen does it for me, even though I've only seen the missing episodes of it.

It looks like a cracking story with mysterious things going on and a menacing creature.  I loved the fact that the writer played with the legend of the Snowman and made him an agent for an alien intelligence.

Ambassadors of Death never really cut it for me, plus it was too long at 7 episodes.

The Android Invasion wins this one.  The story was great and everyone seemed to have a good time doing it.  Such a pity Nicholas Courtney couldn't appear in it as originally planned.  Would have made a good 'last hurrah' for the UNIT team at that point.

Androids of Tara was ok, but strangly uninvolving for me.

The illustrated novelisation of The Abominable Snowmen effected my perceptions of the Troughton era--I thougth it was all going to be as good as that! The Ambassadors of Death I've gone into; it's good but not as good as.

The Android Invasion shows how weak a writer Terry Nation could be when he strayed away from iconic themes and images. It beats The Androids of Tara--my least favourite season sixteen story, which in turn is far from my favourite year. "Let's do The Prisoner of Zenda...but with robots!" High concept?

The Ark In Space was the best - it was the true beginning of the Hinchcliffe/Holmes era, and established the rapport between the Doc, Sarah and Harry.

It had themes which preceded Alien by 4 years, which shows how ahead of time the series could be.

The Armageddon Factor was a suprisingly forgettable story for me, even now I can't remember much about it.

So I will give this one to The Awakening, if only because i recall it being one of the better 2 parters made.

Definitely Ark in Space! Green bubble wrap and all...

I'd choose the flawed Armageddon Factor over the less substantial Awakening.

The Aztecs vs The Brain of Morbius.

The Caves of Androzani vs The Celestial Toymaker.

Definately The Brain of Morbius.  Again it was a wonderful story that had elements of old horror films in it.  Given that it was written by Terrance Dicks and re-written by Holmes, made it an interesting hybrid between Dr Whos most admired writers.

I found The Aztecs to be interesting, but dull.

As for Caves of Androzani and Toymaker, I will have to call them a draw, because both of them are great stories that play with the imagination.

I'd go for The Aztecs! It's the strongest historical with the greatest emphasis on the morality of intervention. And Caves. Because.

The Chase vs The Claws of Axos.

The Creature from the Pit vs The Crusade.

I haven't seen The Chase, so I can't comment.  So I'll have to go for Claws of Axos, which was pretty good anyway.

It was one of the stronger UNIT stories and showed the cast as a true team.  I thought that the Axons had potential to be a recurring monster.

Creature from the PIt was pretty appalling so I'll go for The Crusade.  I'm not really a fan of the historical stories, but anything must be better than Creature surely!!!

Curse of Peladon for sure.  Had an interesting script and making the Ice Warriors the good guys was a masterstroke.  I have fond memories of that story.

The sequel to that The Monster of Peladon was awful.

Curse of Fenric was ok but severely hampered by its low production standards.

Dalek Invasion of Earth gets my vote.  That was an epic story that showed the true early menace of the Daleks.  Plus it had the first departure of a companion in Susan.

I have a sneaking liking for both Peladon stories, although many dislike both and Curse in particular! Thought the Dalek Invasion movie was better than the series version, but I'm willing to go with this.

The Daleks' Master Plan vs The Dæmons.

The Deadly Assassin vs The Dominators.

I'll go for The Daemons, which was a classic story, and was one of the definitive 3rd Doc stories.

It was an excellent end to the 'Master Season', and firmly showed the UNIT team working together very well.

Ive only seen bits of Daleks Masterplan, but it did look good.

The Deadly Assasin wins hands down.  A classic Who story and it was a refreshing change to see the Dr on his own and battling a Master who was clearly unhinged.  Wonderful stuff.

Never liked The Dominators at all.  Very forgettable.
