I havent seen Edge of Destruction, so I will have to go for the other one, which was a good story anyway.

The Empty Child was quite a creepy number, and very well handled by all concerned.

Again, I cant comment on The Enemy of the World, as Ive only seen bits of it, so The End of the World gets my vote.

That one had it all though - humour drama, and pathos, an interesting mix of styles.

It's the new series in this contest! Empty Child was the best of the lot, End of the World the most expensive!

The Evil of the Daleks vs The Face of Evil.

The Faceless Ones vs The Greatest Show in the Galaxy.

A very tough one this time...

The Face of Evil was pretty good, although it did introduce Leela, who I must admit, I never liked.

Evil of the Daleks, Ive only seen the 1 episodes thats available on the Missing Years dvd, but I have to say, I was pretty impressed by what I saw, so Im giving it to this one.

The Greatest Show in the Galaxy I did like a lot, and I think it's one of the best of the McCoy stories. Very atmospheric and the clowns in it were quite creepy.

Having said that though, again I'll give this to the 2nd Dr, as Ive seen whats left of The Faceless Ones on the dvd, and again I was impressed by the moodiness of the story.

Plus it had Pauline Collins in it, who would have made an excellent companion. Pity she didnt take up their offer.

Evil of the Daleks 2 is good, but the missing part 1 is hot, hot, hot! Curses that this wasn't saved, it is quite simply the best single Troughton episode (that I've heard...). The Tardis has been stolen, and the crew are manipulated into a chase after it--it'd be a great intro to anything! Face of Evil can't compare, existing and all.

The Faceless Ones is a strangly unfinished feeling story, rather like the alien menace it portrays (of which every single close up was removed for Australian transmission!). This may be due to its problematic origin and the production team attempting to shoe horn character developments into it which it could probably do without. But even a weird story from the strangest B&W year beats a strong season 24 tale...!

The Green Death vs The Gunfighters.

The Hand of Fear vs The Happiness Patrol.

The Green Death wins.  It saw the departure of Jo and the gradual downsizing of the UNIT team.  So it was a landmark story in many ways.

Ive never been a fan of westerns, so The Gunfighters doesnt even register!

The Hand of Fear was a good tale, and co-incidently featuring the departure of another long serving companion.

The Happiness Patrol was sort of ok, but hardly memorable.

Green Death, although I like Gunfighters--on my own there!

We saw Happiness Patrol at the club before it was on ABC. The horror!

Hand wins, uh, feet down!

The Highlanders vs The Horns of Nimon.

The Ice Warriors vs The Invasion.

The Horns of Nimon was horrible!  But I guess if you've had a bit too much to drink, it might scrub up well!!!

So, even though I havent it, I'll give this one to The Highlanders, if only because it has to be better than Horns!

I havent seen The Invasion unfortunately, but I have seen the saved episodes of The Ice Warriors, which I thought was pretty good.

Having said that, I'll give it to The Invasion, because I love a good Cyberman tale told well, and Ive heard this one was great.

Horns is more of a comedy troup on tour in a foreign country where they don't speaka the lingo than Doctor Who, and if this was such a contest it'd fit the critreria well. The Highlanders is a fairly average historical, it and The Smugglers are way out of their league in the mysterious season four!

The Invasion is good, so is The Ice Warriors--I'd make this a line ball, and go with you!

The Invasion of Time vs The Invisible Enemy.

The Keeper of Traken vs The Keys of Marinus.

The Invasion of Time had a lot of potential to be a good story, but at 6 parts, it was too long, and descended into a mess.

Having the Sontarons chasing everyone around the Tarids was ridiculous, and marrying Leela off defied belief!

So The Invisible Enemy gets it.  While this too was a flawed story, it was more coherent and easier to follow.

I haven't seen The Keys of Marinus, although from what I've heard, it sounds very interesting.

But I'll give it to The Keeper of Traken, because I have fond memories of seeing this when it first came out, and plus it had the return of The Master in human form.

Invasion of Time was beset with technical difficulties, and a too clever by half twist. Invisible Enemy was better, by being not worse! Keys of Marinus was the first attempt at a quest, and streached the production capabilities too far. Additionally Terry Nation had a weakness for incorporating genre fiction he was quite simply no good at--making the Doctor into Perry Mason here and fifteen years later turning Avon into Inspector Poirot! The Keeper of Traken wins by a mile.

The King's Demons vs The Krotons.

The Leisure Hive vs The Long Game.

The Kings Demons definately.  I never liked The Krotons much - too dull and didn't go anywhere.  That story was the first sign that the 2nd Dr era was on its last legs.

The Leisure Hive was evidence of style over substance, but had its good points.

But I'll give this one to The Long Game.

I've got to disagree with this one--Kings Demons is my least favourite Who of all, while I'm still impressed with The Krotons from it's repeat 20 years ago!

The Leisure Hive was a breath of fresh air while The Long Game wasn't much. I'll take Hive!

The Macra Terror vs The Mark of the Rani.

The Masque of Mandragora vs The Massacre.

We can't agree all the time Martin, otherwise that would be boring!!!

Anyway, to be honest, I can't remember much about Macra Terror or Mark of the Rani, although I'll give this one to Mark of the Rani, because I loved Kate O'Mara in it.

Masque of Mandragora definately wins. That's one of my fave stories, and had everything that made Dr Who great in that era.

Wonderful locations, good script and a dynamic Dr/Companion team.

Hey Martin, I've looked over the list again, and I think we've missed out The Five Doctors!!!!

We'll have to slot that in somewhere!!!

Totally, totally correct--I've dropped Five Doctors somewhere--that's OK, we'll tack it on the end. Macra Terror is a surprisingly effective horror tale crouching behind a suitably annoying holiday camp facade. I'll take it over Mark!

Masque is pretty cool, sorry Massacre.

Definately The Mind Robber.  I've seen that one many times, and I think it's an excellent fantasy with lots of surreal images in it.

I found the Toy Soldiers to be quite scary and still do today.  The first episode is a classic, and the rest of it uses its strange plot very well.

The Monster of Peladon was an awful story in what was a very lacklustre season.

So The Moonbase gets my vote for this one.

I agree about "The Moonbase" with what we have to go by. It's a damn shame that they destroyed so much of Troughton's era.......it would have been good to see 'cocktail Polly'!

But I find it too hard to rate  "The Mind of Evil" over or below "The Mind Robeer" - to me those two are equally good. They're both classics.
