I didn't like Romana 1 that much - I found her to be rather snooty to my liking. The 2nd was by far the best version.
So Polly wins - I think she perfectly captured the 'swinging 60s' type of girl that was around then. |

Polly always seemed a bit blah to me, like the script writers wern't sure what "it" was. They did better with their other young people...Romana I never really worked for me, however...
Romana II vs Rose. |

very very difficult choice!
I love Romana 2, I thought she was the perfect companion to the 4th Dr, after Sarah Jane. Lalla Ward was wonderful in the role.
Billie Piper has been great as Rose too. Considering that Piper got her start as a pop singer, shes done very well in a feisty role.
Im calling this one a tie, I cant choose. |

This one's tight, but it's gotta be Lalla!
Controversial...

Who else can it be, but Sarah Jane??
One of the best companions in the series, who left her mark on the show, and proved a tough act to follow.
She would probably be No. 1 on my list |

The Sara Kingdom controversy dates back to the Radio Times 20th Anniversry Special, she hadn't been considered a companion until then.

This may be very contraversial, but to be totally honest, I never really connected with the Susan character at all.
I felt at times that she weighed the stories down and didnt really serve that much purpose.
I realise she was one of the first companions, but that doesnt necessarily make her a good one.
So Im going for Steven, as I admired his reasonable toughness, and he seemed to stand up quite well against the 1st Dr. |

I found Steven to be pretty vaguely defined; incoming authors had little to go on with him. Susan irritates as she was shoved into a more vulnerable role than was intended, her sudden telepathy in The Sensorites wa one facet of this.
Tegan vs Vicki. |

I'll go for Tegan, because she at least had the courage to question the Drs actions, and what they were doing.
I thought she provided a good counterpoint to the 'safe option' 5th Dr.
I know that her style was a bit offputting for some people, but I found her to be a refreshing change. |

I've got to go with Jamie; Tegan annoyed me to distraction!
We've got annother three way choice :
Victoria vs Turlough vs Zoe. |

? I thought that round was between Tegan and Vicki? Where did Jamie come into it?
Anyway, I'll go for Turlough, because he had several layers to him, and was very well played by Mark Strickson.
I think there was still some more potential to that character, had he continued. |

jestear's name is Jamie.
I prefer Zoe, but not by much--I'll go with Turlough.
And another mighty list whittled down! |

K9 I vs K9 II
hehehe...
---------------------
All up, from the now thankfully growing again list of comapnions, for my money, Romana wins hands down. |
