Linx wins.

I like the way he takes no prisoners and does things without remorse.  One of the classic Robert Holmes villains.

Like the Voord, the Drahvins tend to be used for humour.

Definately Magnus Creel.

Talons is one of the classic Baker stories, with great atmosphere and a fantastic villain.

I know Martin is the Master of Ceremonies on this Forum, but I'm going to jump the gun because I rarely get the time to put my 2 cents in anymore........

When it comes to the Mandragora Helix and the Mara, I'm stuck as to which was the better villain. Both were entities that used spiritual energy and manipulated their human hosts for their own ends (power and conquest). The Mara is a metaphor for the evil within human nature, and the Helix was an energy that was capable of almost anything!

"Kinda" and "The Masque of Mandragora" are 2 of my favourite stories........it's a tie for me.

Far be it from me to try to claim ownership of this debate!

I find Kinda quite forgettable, and Snakedance more so--several times I've pondered apparent four episode gaps in seasons 19 and 20 before the penny drops.  Having said that, Kinda's quite an interesting idea, and the Mara works well, albeit as a kind of pantomime snake in episode four and an apparent refugee from the video for Ashes to Ashes in episode one.

The Mandragora Helix works on a couple of levels, a crackling alien thing hiding inside a cult old by the Renaissance and  science based threat to the Earth due to the Doctor's negligence. One of the things which always impresses me about Louis Marks' career as a Who writer is how long it spanned and how he was able to write to any old lunatic idea the production crew kicked his way.

Surprisingly for one of those wieird season 4 stories, The Macra Terror works pretty well. Magnus Greel would have little to fear from the crabs, however.

Master of the Land of Fiction for sure.  Even though he turned out to be an old man, the actual alien being controlling him was very menacing.

I would have love to have seen a sequel to The Mind Robber, if only to explain how the land of fiction came into being in the first place.

Mehendri Solon wins this round.

I always found Melgos to be rather dull, and the story itself was very forgettable as well.

Definitely Morbius.......he really was evil and his character was shrouded in mystery/conscpiracy. The stroy was one of the most creepiest from the Holmes/Hinchcliffe 'golden age of the macarbe'.

* The mind wrestle between Morbius and The Doctor has to be one of the greatest scenes in the shows history *

Agreed--Nero may be funny, but not very menacing!

hmm, I must admit to having a soft spot for the Ogrons.  Even though they're basically just menacing drones, they definately look pretty scary to me!

But in terms of being a villain without any morals at all, Omega wins hands down.

I consider his re-appearance in Arc of Infinity as a mistake - yet another one of JNTs 'bright ideas' gone wrong!!!

The Arc of Infinity was one of the biggest loads of rubbish in the Davison era and it made Omega into a complete twat!

The Omega of The Three Doctors was an excellent villain.......much better than the Ogrons - who - couldn't  - talk - very - much - at - all - uggg uggg......

I think one of the best things about Omega is that he's sympathetic; he claimed to have been abandoned by the Time Lords, and it turns out he's telling the truth!

Terrance Dicks likes the Ogrons and returns to them and their good stone/bad stone-ism in his novels.

I'll pick Rorvik, as I think Warriors Gate has a lot of great elements in it, including good baddies.
