The trailer I saw looks like a cyberwoman but incomplete... and she has a rather shapely breast plate... now I thought that the cyber race were all androgynous?

That's a bit of a worry if a Cyberman is in it.

I hope that Torchwood creates its own identity away from the parent series - one or two episodes featuring Who monsters might be ok, but I think the main monsters should appear in the main show.

But of course, its early days yet, we shall see what happens.......

of all the reports I have read it seems that Torchwood is going to be much darker and scarier than Doctor Who... if this is the case then bring it on...

Yes I'm looking forward to it all the same.

As long as the show doesn't become a 'poor man's version' of Dr Who thats all.

I think the idea is that it will be different enough from Dr Who that it can be a success of its own.

Cool!!!!

Initially I wasn't at all interested in the idea of Torchwood, but now having watched the trailer, I've changed my mind - thanks, Sneb!

However, l too hope that it won't just borrow off it's parents and just use Dr Who icons like Cybermen, etc.

The preview makes Trochwood look like it stands a real chance of being an 'adult' sci fi spin off - MUCH LIKE BLAKE'S 7 WAS FOR DR.WHO BACK IN THE 70s.......

Wouldn't it be excellent if this were to be the case for the 21st century!!!!!!!

Just watched the first episode of Torchwood.

Brilliant

Doctor Who now has a new rival for best TV SciFi (even non Scifi) show.

I want that spray bottle:)

I can`t say about episode 1 as I caught the last fifteen minutes, but it looked alright.

Episode 2 was a real disappointment in my eyes.

Episode 3 was a lot better.

Episode 4 (having watched the trailer) looks really good but then trailers can be misleading.

All in all, mixed feelings about this spin-off but at the same time I have a great feeling of respect that the attempt has been made to make a decent spin-off that doesn`t mirror the parent programme.

      Anyway, time will tell.

Will it be long till Torchwood lights up in Oz ?

I only ask because it is frustrating not being able to go into detail.

By the way, co-incidentally I watched the Paul McGann Dr Who movie earlier today.

I have to admit McGann wasn`t quite as bad as I previously thought. He might`ve made a better job than Ecclestone.

The music to the Movie version was really crap and uninspiring though.

The McGann movie had its good moments thats true.

Although the general story wasn't up to scratch.

McGann would have made for a fine Dr given a decent script.  I agree that the music score was pretty bad - the typical loud and brash American score.

Torchwood looks pretty good - I suspect it wont appear on the ABC until well into next year, either just before or after the next Dr Who series.

The ABC have made no commitment to purchasing Torchwood, but having said that, the BBC are contractually obligated to offer it to them first and considering the ratings hit Who has been the last two years they'd be fools not to buy it.

On reflection, considering American involvement, it`s actually surprising that the Movie is even watchable (though to purists and those with good taste it may not have been.)

Rubbish musical interpretation/typical Hollywood action scenes (Totally Un Dr Who)/plot discrepancies/sudden character turn-arounds/romantic love interest/,...and those are only the few that this unobservant viewer had forced down his throat.

They ARE fools. My friend has emailed them asking for details and was told "The ABC does not have the rights to broadcast this series, however please be assured that I will forward your comments to the Television Programming Department so they are aware of [italics]audience demand[/italics] for the program.

I urge anyone who would like to see Torchwood on the ABC to write expressing interest.

It's a bit like RSVPs... If they aren't ASSURED it will be a hit they won't pick it up when it is offered by BBC.

Looks like I better write in...

I hate watching shows on commerical tv now, they either cut bits out of it, put more ads in, repeat shows at random, show episodes out of order, etc, etc, ad nauseum!!!!!!

I couldn't imagine seeing Dr Who on a commercial channel - and Im glad Ive never experienced that!

Hey, go ahead and knock yourselves out. There's never been any evidence that fan campaigns do any good; just that they confirm the existing prejudices. I am profoudly sceptical about consumer affairs, since it turns out this club was the source of their information in 2003/4. The only thing they've ever done for fandom is leak the schedule for the 2006 Who episodes a week before they were supposed to.

The prospects for keeping Who commercial free are up in the air. We've lost its major rival to ABC, who never the less got his hands on it in NZ, where it screens with ads. Who will doubtless continue on ABC with the ratings win this year; unfortunatly the question there is will ABC itself remain commcercial free? And as noted in the current Wall of Lies, SBS is now placing ads within programmes--so the second chance scenario of them picking up Torchwood would be pointless.

Well this was reported on the ABC website :

"'Dr Who' spin-off draws record viewers

By Gary Kemble. Posted: Wednesday, October 25 2006 .

The BBC reports that Torchwood, a Doctor Who spin-off about secret agents battling alien and human foes, has drawn the largest digital channel audience for a non-sport program."

I hope the ABC sees dollar signs and picks up Torchwood. And I pray they won't start inserting ads...

This is great news for Torchwood's chances of purchase by the ABC. The next step is the sales conference in February, although they may have already made up their minds at those figures.
