True, but there is a serious lack of organisation and personnel. They remind me more of a terrorist/resistance cell; which might be the aim of the producers.
Anyway, I suppose it`s easy to be critical.
I`ve watched the double episode season finale almost three times now and I think Dr Who fans will appreciate it.It gets quite biblical in parts.
When do you guys get to see Torchwood? I`m sure there are observations I`ve missed that you could point out.

We still as yet don't know. The most likely channel to purchase it has gone from being free and easy (if indifferent) with its scheduling information to all paranoid and allergic to fans over the last three years--which just happens to coincide with its latest Who broadcasts.

Having said that, most of us probably watch it over the net, and the rest have access to it thus.

If so, then why not more discussion and opinion regarding the series.
It`s annoying that I can`t say much about it. The only person I can discuss it with is my son who is almost 7 years old (although he does ask insightful questions for his age such as; `if the Cybermen upgrade everybody, what do they do then ?`)
But transfer that insight to Torchwood and the questions become `why does Captain Jack kiss other boys`?
And Yes, I am sure many will ask why I allow him to watch the Torchwood series. Simply put, the answer is because it has become his life (not Torchwood itself but all things Who).As much as I love discussing it with him I would like some educated (ie conversant with Dr Who) feedback. Without spoiling it for people who don`t have access to the new series, is this possible anytime soon?

I don't know why those who've seen it haven't participated more. But I think the very nature of this thread suggests the material will be spoilers--so go for it.

Can't wait to see Torchwood, although I'll probably see it on dvd and watch it right the way through.

I never watch commercial tv these days, way too many ads....and after seeing how SBS has ads on it now, I shudder to think of the ABC doing the same thing.

I can't possibly imagine watching Dr Who with ads in it, sounds like a nightmare to me!

As available on Foxtel--ABC's in no immediate risk of this, and it's dubious any other free to air station's going to be interested in either. Lucky old Kiwis!

Since no one is discussing the series yet I`ll wait till you are all ready.
In the meantime can I have some info on Abidon? I can`t remember which Dr(s) encountered him but I seem to think it may have been Tom Baker or Jon Pertwee. And was his harbinger/representative called Bilis Manger (is this an anagram)?

Abidon and Bilis Manager????

This sounds like something from the books; if so I'd guess the BBC 8th Doctor post "trapped on Earth" arc.

This episode had Biblical aspects to it so perhaps its origins are other than Dr Who.
I`m sure I have heard reference to Abidon before now and, not being religious, assumed it was tied in with the Who universe. Doesn`t the SG-1 series mention an Abidos ? It might be an original creation from the writers but I suspect it has its inspiration from elsewhere.
Any one out there know more about this?
Any one out there seen this episode?
Any one out there,................?
Anyone,...........?

SG1 draws quite heavily on the ancient Egyptian mythology, so its quite possible they referenced Abidos at some point.

I've seen so many SG1 eps that they all blur into one though - hard to know what story quoted which plot!!!

I know what you mean. I like the original O`Neil series but it does tend to "meld" if you know what I mean.
As for its` historical reference, it could be the inspiration for Abidon; Or maybe the inspiration emanates from elsewhere. Somehow I find it difficult to believe this was an entirely original incarnation/concept from the production/writing team.
Yeah, I know: I`m very cynical

I've liked what SG1 have done with the Ori storyline - I've only seen up to Season 9 this far, but I'm glad the series finally changed things around a bit.

Atlantis is pretty good too - they wisely decided to let it become its own show, rather than having 'guest appearances' from SG1 regulars.

I do however know that O'Neill and Carter appear in the later seasons of Atlantis...so hopefully they fit in well with the cast - time will tell.

Yeah, the Ori storyline is fairly compelling as were the previous storylines; the Gou`a`ould, the discovery of the Asgard worlds (tho` a bit weaker), the replicators (quite scary in a Borg kind of way) and the political interferences.
However, if you replace a character, why go for a clone of the original          (cameron mitchell: capital letters omitted purposefully)? Imagine Star Trek TNG with a clone of Kirk; it wouldn`t work (although I am convinced that Riker is that clone in case Picard didn`t "cut it"). Picard is the only reason the show had any credibility.
It all boils down to Hollywood formulae; why else would they have Acting Ensign Crusher on the same vessel as his Mom ?
These Hollywood producers like to hedge their bets.

I just read something terrible in the latest TV Week (don't I always?)

In a reply to a letter about when Torchwood was going to be on, the editor replied that the ABC had passed on buying the show, as had SBS.

So does this mean Torchwood is going to be full of ads on a commercial channel??

Say it isn't so!!!

If it comes to commercial tv, I'm waiting for the dvd - any Dr Who related show with ads in it is unthinkable to me!!

Anyone know anymore information??

After your tip (now on the news page) I wrote to both. ABC has confirmed this, SBS is less responsive so we'll have to wait and see--same with it going commerical, no guarentee anyone'll want it!

Oh, very good! I've also contacted them, and UKTV tends to get back in days.

Edit: ...and no sooner than this they respond, "no plans to purchase".

A quick round up of the commercial guys--Nine say they wouldn't be interested, and the programming dept's of Ten and Seven are honest enough to 'fess up that they don't know.

Edit: SciFi don't want to know, and it seems my contact at the BBC has moved on...

I think that's dreadful that no channel wants to show it.

Personally, I'll probably end up watching someone else's downloaded copy or buy an overseas dvd copy.

But I'm sorry for the general viewers who might miss out on another interesting and exciting show.
