The BBC has revealed that it wrote and issued the press release announcing Christphor Eccleston's departure, breaking an agreement with the actor.
The BBC only admitted their fault when a reporter attempted to further research the story. In a terse press release the Corporation claims inventing a quote by him. "The BBC further regrets that it falsely attributed a statement to Christopher and apologises to him.", a spokesperson admitted. Eccleston's decision to leave dates back to January, and the quote attributed to him was released in time for maximum publicity following the premiere of the new Doctor Who on BBC One.
Eccleston, 41, might have said in his northern accent "It's a fit up! They ain't got NUFFIN on me!" But we made that bit up.
