The new series of Doctor Who will screen on ABC from "mid May".
ABC's Head of Programming Marena Manzoufas has confirmed to SFSA that Doctor Who will screen, in a "good slot" in May, making the predicted 19:30 Saturday time the likely candidate. ABC's press release quotes her describing the new series as "21st century-style". As with the original sale in April 1964, while Australia could have screened it first, the new series has debuted in Canada prior to us; and has also screened in New Zealand and been purchased by European cable Canal Jimmy.
To quote Ms. Manzoufas, the new series is "21st century-style" - does that mean The Doctor HAS to be curt and attitude filled? Is this part of appealing to the masses and 'giving in' to the ideology of individualism and the need for 'authenticity', even in the genre of fantasy? If so, The Doctor shall no longer be the sci fi hero that we once were able to relegate to the world of imagination and only wish that we could become as enlightened as.

OK, as far as I can tell this is Programm-ese for "it moves along". To further quote Marena, she was "worried that it would only appeal to existing fans", but as it turns out its fast and attitudinal and has had way too much coffee for its own good!
