Billy West, the voice of Philip J Fry (also Professor Hubert J Farnsworth, Dr. Zoidberg and too many others to list) reports on his site today that Futurama will return.
Its May 2002 cancellation was much deplored by fans and creator Matt Groening. His other cartoon show marches on towards 20 seasons and shows signs of staleness, while it is understood his interest in Futurama has not declined.
Between this and the last year revivification of Family Guy (after three years in the morgue) it appears that the Fox Network has run out of ideas for animation, and needs to return to the recently dead in the hopes of ratings.
I'm thisclose to selling my show--''Billy Bastard--Amateur Human Being,'' And the other good news is that they're doing 26 new episodes of ''Futurama'' for TV and we're hammering out the deal now.The original plan was to have the DVD's first but that's no longer the case.I'm totaly jammed dude.
Billy has issued a retraction on the same forum. Some form of return has been suggested, more in the nature of direct to DVD releases. West has claimed there will be four of these.
Here is the retraction:
I'm sorry I gave inaccurate info on the cartoon.I was told on one end that the
TV show was a go but DXC enlightened me (with a hammer) that this was
not the case.I think there is a Futurama project as in DVD's but I appearently
had bad info. But I do live to give good Futurama news to people. So I must've
died or something.
