The Australian Broadcasting Corporation has confirmed today that they have decided not to purchase Torchwood.
Despite claims of the purchase in both fan and mainstream media, ABC Programming has maintained any decision on the series would follow official viewing. Axelf saw a claim in a television magazine that both ABC and SBS had decided against the purchase, and when put to the ABC they confirmed this. It may now be purchased by a commercial station.
That totally sucks.
Apparently ratings don't mean anything to the ABC. Didn't Torchwood have nearly record ratings in the UK?
Torchwood has record ratings for things broadcast on digital television which aren't sport--like the record for being transmitted by toaster alone. While this is disapointing, looking at their demographic breakdown of the Who audience shows their logic--its outstanding ratings have been in the 55+ bracket. Not really Torchwood country. How this is relevant for us is that we won't have any torchwood converts showing up at meetings.
No; and the commercial guys are usually less responsive than my big toe when its heavily afflicted with pins and needles.
Actually the North Korean option sounds pretty good--the new managing director Mark Scott has announced they are "combining" ABC-TV and ABC-2. This'll be the fourth failed second tv channel ABC's run. So a second channel with some good old commie propaganda would be a great opportunity to get it right...
Lets tote it up 1. Bought all 26 season of the original series soon after first broadcast in UK. Some ommissions, some censor issues. 2. Bought both series of BBC Wales produced new show, probably buy more. 3. K9 and Company.
1. No Torchwood. 2. No Confidential. 3. No Totally Doctor Who. 4. No Sarah Jane Investigates/Adventures. 5. Never bought any of the anniversary documentaries (such as Thirty Years in the TARDIS). 6. No repeats 2005/6.
So to sum up, ABC's done OK by us in the past. Personally I reckon they should be the one in partnership with BBC Wales, it seems to be suiting CBC just fine. And they were co-producers with The Five Doctors; did that not convince them it's money in the bank?
It's not like any of us won't get to see Torchwood at some stage. But being a fan club, the more material there is on the screen the better for us.
they buy crappy shows like 'italian civilisations of peru and 'Human contraptions' but the dont get doctor who spin-off and kiddie shows from there most poular show! actually there the only overseas i could find in the TV guide
Yes, it's quite likely that Sarah Jane Adventures also won't be picked up (but I haven't asked!); the financial concerns rumoured by "insiders" suggest that this decision may be linked to the ABC's own internal machinations rather than the rating/scheduling ones.
