Torchwood delay
30/07/2007 23:59 GMT

Posted by Martin

Torchwood has been moved in TEN's schedule.

Torchwood was delayed for 55 minutes by the finale of Big Brother 2007 on Monday July 31st, and TEN's schedule for May 6th has The Lost Tomb of Jesus listed from 20.30 to 22.30 instead of the Doctor Who spin off.

TEN has confirmed it will be moving to Tuesday midnight, or 27 and a half hours later than it had been scheduled, from August 8.

What was Ten's reasoning this time ? It only got 999,999.999999 viewers rather than 1,000,000???

I am getting sick of Channel Ten!!!

I'm sorry to say both Torchwood and Doctor Who haven't been rating that well. Who missed out on its usual million viewer debut. The Big Brother over run drew 1.92 million viewers, peaking at 2 million, followed by Torchwood averaging out at 563, 000.

A spokesperson says: "Although Torchwood launched to an impressive number it was not able to sustain rating up against particularly tough competition. We thank loyal fans for their support and we will play out the series, albeit on Tuesday's late night."

That is absolutely typical commercial tv station speak.

As soon as a show doesnt rate, they take it off - no matter if it has a cult following or not.

I understand that they need ratings, but do ratings necessarily equal quality?

I rather see an interesting show that makes you t hink more than a reality show.

Don't get me started on Big Brother.....but I think as a whole, sci fi shows have been treated shamefully by commercial Australian networks for years.

They don't care about quality, just money and they associate ratings and money are the same thing in their feeble minds.

I was unaware of the change of timeslot - I'd seen that a "special presentation" was on in place of Torchwood but I assumed it was just a ploy to stretch the series over a longer period of time.

I was in Wollongong last night for a concert and back in the hotel was channel surfing when I was on Ten and lo and behond, Torchwood started. Lucky me.

I've since seen next Monday's TV Guide - repeats of L&O SVU.

Oh well, now we just have to tape it and fast-forward through the ads that we may have watched had the show been telecast at 9.30pm.

Now that makes it a good business decision.

Grrrrr

It has done apallinlgy badly in the midnight slot--overnights show it getting 98,000 nationwide, 12,000 in Adelaide.
Don't think there's any point railing at TEN, they're their own worst enemy.

Well once again Ch 10 - and a commercial tv channel - stuffs it up.

Instead of giving things a go, the ratings intrude and it's dumped in a midnight slot - like The 4400 was.

In fact I think 4400 got shunted to a 3 am slot!!!!

And where on earth is Season 3 of Battlestar Gallactica??

Did it come on while I wasn't looking or hasn't Ch 10 shown it yet????

Give me the dvd anyday thanks!!!

Hmmm.

The Torchwood episode last night (14/8) had the dreaded "rpt" next to it in two separate TV guides here in Canberra. Nothing surprising there from this network but then I flick on Channel 10 about 1215am and look, this wasn't a repeat (unless I've missed an episode - but I don't think so).

Hmmm.

That's pretty bad, I'll pass that on to the station (they don't need to shoot themselves in the foot any more over this). Do you know which guides they were?

Good morning.

The weekly TV Guide in 'The Canberra Times' dated 13/8 shows the episode for 14/8 being a repeat as did the guide in the 'Canberra Chronicle' from last Tuesday .

There's also a weekly guide in the Times on a Sunday but I can't remember if that showed the 'r' as well.

Thanks for that; I've told the publicist and asked for the latest ratings information. I wnader if the repeat listing made any differnce to last weeks figures?
