ABC buys rights to Torchwood
27/01/2009 06:54 GMT

Posted by Martin

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation has bought the rights to Torchwood seasons one and two.

Currently not scheduled, ABC2 will likely broadcast the series in late 2009.

Or as some will ask "Why didn't they get it in the first place?"

About time! I missed some of the first season episodes when they shifted it to late at night! Now I will be able to see them

Thanks for letting us know Martin.

Now if only Ten (with its stupid 'only show Sci-Fi/Fantasy on the HD channel' policy) would surrender its rights to Smallville, Battlestar Galactica, and The X-Files people may be able to actually watch them - LOL!

Don't hold out any hope of 10 showing any of those shows on HD - they've replaced that channel with a sports one.  So all of those above titles are ripe for take over from someone else.

It seems bizarre why ABC didn't purchase Torchwood in the first place - tv these days really confuses me!!!

What will happen to Battlestar Galactica???? They are at a really interesting part now, so I am waiting for the next season.

I think the difference now, as opposed to two years ago, is that Doctor Who's proved itself a ratings winner. Torchwood and Sarah Jane may be hot properties now, instead of stuff people buy while waiting for the latest CSI clone. Hopefully Ten comes to this realization with K9, if not BSG.

I have yet to see Sarah Jane Adventures at all.  Is it showing on Foxtel or what?

I'm not one for downloading too much stuff so am patiently awaiting its release onto Region 4 dvd....whenever it happens.

Ha ha, well it may be rubbish but I have no idea!

I'd like to see it anyway even if it's awful.

I've got the date of premiere; June 19 at 10.30pm, and subsequent Friday nights. This is from The Wall of Lies 116, distributing from tomorrow's pub meeting on.
