Hello. I am new.
Does anyone know of any video stores other than Galactic that have Dr. Who vhs and dvds?
Also, why the f**ck is it taking so long for the bbc too release dr. who's back catalogue of stories out on dvd. I'm still waitin for the Sunmakers. And why are they so damned expensive? Also, does anyone know what's in that black dr. who back that you can buy from JB HIFI that obviously has at least one dr. who dvd in it, but no packaging to explain the contents? |

You are absolutely right about how long it's taking to release Dr Who on DVD!!!!!
I can't remember how the releases went back in the 80s and early 90s, but I know they were still releasing new titles onto video right up until 2003. (And we had to wait until 2001 for "The Sunmakers" - I liked that story, too!)
I shudder to think that I may have to wait until 2012 or even longer to get all the ones I want (like "The Image of the Fendahl", "The Deadly Assassin", "Terror of the Autons", "Planet of the Daleks", "The time warrior", "The Mind of Evil", "The Sea Devils", "The Masque of Mandragora", "The Face of Evil", "Logopolis", "Castrovalva", "Frontios", etc. etc. etc!!!!!!
By the way, Jestear is absolutely right about Atlantic Video over in Blair Athol - I hired nearly all of their collection until I bought/taped all the ones I wanted. I don't know if they still have their fantastic VHS collection now though.
And they sell the DVDs cheaper than the ABC shop!!!!
(Price of DVDs - just as ridiculous as the price of petrol and LPG!!!!! LPG at 65 cents a litre - what the fuck??????) |

Thanks people. I'll check out Atlantic this weekend! I didn't know it took that long to get the Sunmakers out on vhs. Its probably my favourite story. Never hear it listed when people talk of classic episodes though so maybe its an underrated gem.
I think dvds can always be found cheaper than at the ABC shops. But even at ezydvd, Jb and everywhere else i have looked the double disc ones are around 40 dollars. Don't know how they can justifie that. Guess they figure we nerds will pay anything for precious dr. who special features.
Does anyone know what i am talking bout with that black dr.who satchell at JB HIFI with some mysterious dvd as well as something else in it? |

Bloody Commerce Graduate!!!!!!!
Seriously, what you have written makes perfect sense - I just wish I had the ability to stay on and finish my Economics degree - then I wouldn't have become a teacher!!!
Hey, what's this about LPG going up even more???? HOW MUCH MORE???? I'm getting worried. Very worried.
And Davison may have been a bit of a limp wristed Doctor, but his stories were still very good ("Kinda" was bloody fantastic, and so was "Castrovalva", "Earthshock", "The 5 Doctors", "Frontios" and "The Caves of Androzani")
Should you beg to differ, I will be forced to challenge you to a duel................ |

The whole of this country is going to shit. John Howard's Australia is all about helping big multinationals f**ck over citizens. Making the poor poorer and less educated, lowering the rates of pay and expenditure on government services that we should get from our tax money. Instead its going to fund a war that is all about helping multinationals, a random example being ANZ bank. The whole thing is about pushing down the people and widening the class gap, so Howard and his buddies in the ruling elite have a pool of cheap and desperate workers to fuel their "Metropolis"-esque factories. (I'm not a socialist or any other 'ist') but if i had the money i would migrate to Sweden.
Thanks Sneb for your informative response. But if anyone knows if theis question has ever been put to someone from the BBC i would love to hear about it. I wish they would just release each season in a box set! |

No worries Mattslittlebrother I don't consider that as left wing. Just a very accurate and astute observation of the current state of our forever morally bankrupting nation. All thanks to Mr Howard and his obsession of pushing his class dividing ideology
Sorry never heard the question offically posed to the BBC but I am sure they would give it some spin to make it sound like they are doing the consumer a favour. Something like.... "By spreading out the release of Doctor Who onto DVD the BBC is able to ensure the highest quality product, with informative extra's and higher quality picture and sound which will result in a more satisfying experience for the fans"
As Colin Baker would say .... PURE POPPY COCK!!! |

Hey, this is the 21st century globalised society - no more left and right politics..........the world has come together on agreement that we must work together to achieve universal objectives like lowering greenhouse emissions, alleviating poverty and assisting 3rd world nations, free trade and multiculturalism..............
What was I smoking????????
Class inequity is NEVER going to be eliminated.
To quote a very wise man..........
"If two people desire the same thing which they both cannot enjoy, they will be at war.......And if one is more gifted in gighting with muscle and phyiscal force, the other will do all that they can to subdue the other by use of devious machination and cunning........Peace is only the time between wars"

Liberalism is meant to mean a free market society where businesses can operate with the minimal amount of interferance from government, and citizens have the right to live their lives in freedom, so long as that freedom does not make life dangerous for society. Basically, textbook liberalism means 'liberty', and that means the government is there to maintain law and order so that businesses have the freedom to make profits, and citizens have the freedom to live as they please.
> Now, what is a citizen?
> What is a government?
> What are the rights of citizens, and what are their responsibilities?
> What are the responsibilities of government?
> How is a government made accountable for its actions?
> What are the rights and responsibilities of business?
> How does a business operate ethically, and how do we make sure that it is operating that way?
...........liberty aint easy guys!!!! |

Now Jimmy, you should know that there can never be true liberty. We will always be slaves to some master, so law, some routine, some multi-national who keeps screwing us at the bowser for that extra 5 cents a litre
Liberalism may make a lot of people rich, but I am happy to pay a few extra $$$ per week in tax if it means, everyone can go to University, everyone has a roof over there head and everyone watches Dr Who |

Like that's where the revenue is going!!!!!!!!!
I'd like to think that...........but I'd like to actually see the income and expenditure figures and see if the tax actually does get paid on public good , but then again, I failed the last year of my Economics degree, so I wouldn't be able to understand the balance sheets.
You're the Law/Commerce student......I'd have to hand them to you! |

I like the idea of being able to prioritize your tax use. If there's a particular scheme or infrastructure you support, you get to nominate this and if possible some of your tax goes directly towards this. |

Actually that would be a great idea, lets face it, who would willing decide to put money in politicians pockets. At least if you could prioritise it, we would have the best medical and educational facilities in the world, lots of well maintained roads and a whole bunch of starving politicians Ahhh, the world would indeed be a wonderful place if it were so....
